 Chocolate chip caramel bars

Ingredients:

2 1/8 cups all-purpose flour

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/2 teaspoon baking soda

12 tablespoons butter, melted and cooled to room temperature

1 cup brown sugar

1/2 cup white sugar

1 large egg

1 large egg yolk

2 teaspoons vanilla extract

2 cups chocolate chips

1/2 cup chopped walnuts (optional)

10 ounces caramel candy

3 tablespoons heavy cream


Directions:

Preheat your oven to 325°F (165°C). Grease a 9x13 inch baking pan.

In a bowl, mix flour, salt, and baking soda. Set aside.

In another bowl, blend melted butter, brown sugar, and white sugar until well combined. Add the egg, egg yolk, and vanilla extract, mixing well.

Gradually blend in the dry ingredients until just combined. Stir in the chocolate chips and walnuts.

In a microwave-safe bowl, melt the caramel candy with heavy cream, stirring until smooth.

Press half of the cookie dough into the prepared pan. Pour the melted caramel over the dough, then drop the remaining dough in spoonfuls over the caramel.

Bake for 25-30 minutes. Cool completely in the pan before cutting into bars.
